The Patna High Court today ordered a CBI inquiry into the circumstances under which the state’s 48 PSUs went sick and its employees unpaid for years.

The court also directed the CAG to audit the accounts of these units and lay the report in both Houses of the State Legislature. On Monday, the court had directed the state to seeksuggestions to revive the PSUs.

It also directed the state to file a report within 10 days on the facilities being provided for the Uday Sinha Committee — entrusted with the disbursal of Rs 50 crore deposited by the state as interim relief to the employees. Even five months after the government paid the money, the judicial committee is yet to distribute a single penny.

Visibly annoyed, the judges observed that now there was no way out than to order a CBI probe. ‘‘The workers are dying of hunger and the government seems least bothered. We gave you time but you are engaged in shielding facts. Let the CBI probe and bring out the reality,’’ the bench said.

The judges asked the CBI to find out which MD, chairman and director were involved in money floundering and bring out the details of their foreign trips paid by the PSUS. Interestingly, the court has not set a timeframe for the proposed CBI inquiry.
