CBI Director U.S. Misra today said the agency was making ‘‘serious efforts’’ to get the trial of Madhumita murder case shifted out of Uttar Pradesh. The statement came even as Madhumita’s family said Amarmani Tripathi and his wife needed to be kept under strict watch as they were intimidating family members.
Misra said the CBI would ensure the couple was under close watch in jail as there were complaints of them enjoying a lavish lifestyle in a UP jail. ‘‘If reports of Amarmani him enjoying luxuries in jail come this time, we will proceed to get him shifted to a non-UP jail. I have already written to UP DGP and the IB to ensure proper security for Madhumita’s family which met me recently complaining of threats from Tripathi,’’ Mishra said. The couple is expected to surrender in a Lucknow court tomorrow.
