NEW DELHI, DEC 7: Concerned over its recent indictment by a city court in the Priyadarshani Mattoo murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday said it was studying the "lapses" in the probe into the case.

"The CBI director is deeply concerned over the observations made by the learned judge and has directed the two special directors in the organisation to go through the judgement and suggest further appropriate action," the apex investigating agency said in a release here today.

The director himself is studying the 450-page ruling given by Additional Sessions Judge G P Thareja "with great care to identify the various lapses in the investigation pointed out by the learned judge", it said.

An early decision in this regard will be taken in consultation with the legal officers of the agency, the release added.

The court had, on December 3, acquitted Santosh Kumar Singh, son of Pondicherry Inspector General of Police (IGP) J P Singh in the Mattoo rape and murder case due to lack ofevidence and pulled up the CBI for not acting "in a fair manner".

The court had passed severe strictures against the CBI and city police for acting in a "negative manner to help the accused".
