NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 13: The CBI’s match-fixing report has spun a long way to hit the business circles. The chief of Board for Control of Cricket, A.C. Muthiah, has withdrawn his candidature for the post of president, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Muthiah, chairman of SPIC, became president-elect of FICCI in August and was expected to take over the top post at FICCI at the forthcoming AGM in December from G.P. Goenka.

“Muthiah has decided so in the wake of the CBI report. According to the report, the CBI will investigate the BCCI from November-end. The investigation may go on for three-four months and Muthiah will be representing the BCCI before the CBI everyday. This certainly would not allow him to perform his duties as FICCI president in a proper manner,” said Amit Mitra, secretary general, FICCI.

When contacted, Muthiah said: “The CBI report has made a lot of comments on the BCCI and the raids on BCCI officials have already begun. I have to fulfil my commitments to the BCCI and as it demands most of my time, I cannot take up another full-time job).”
