LUCKNOW, NOV 19: A bureaucrat’s cell phone that rang at an inopportune moment in the High Court cost him a fine of Rs 500.

The official, Basant Lal Singh, chief marketing officer of the State Food and Civil Supplies Department, was also found to have entered the court without a pass.

The incident took place when a division Bench of Allahabad High Court was hearing a public interest petition against soaring prices of essential commodities. The Bench, comprising Justice A N Gupta and Justice Jagdish Bhalla, later dismissed the petition after comparing the list of prices submitted
