The Government is contemplating action against Principal Information Officer Sahab Singh for taking part in a dharna on Wednesday along with fellow Indian Information Service (IIS) officers who had gathered to highlight the plight of their cadre. The agitating officers had sat outside Information and Broadcasting Secretary Pawan Chopra’s office. An official report of the day’s events leading to the dharna has been prepared and sent to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for action. Singh, who is of the rank of Special Secretary to the Government of India, led the agitation right up to Chopra’s door. Officials said the dharna amounts to cognisable offence involving obstruction of officials on duty and will be recognised as such.
