DECEMBER 24: Bhartiya Janata Party MP Kirit Somaiya has said that the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation to be set up by the Central Government will be established within a month.

He told reporters that the issue was taken up at the Parliament and the Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has given an assurance that the corporation would be set up shortly. Somaiya said that the names of the Chairman and Managing Director and the other members would be announced shortly.

Somaiya also said that the BJP in Mumbai will observe and celebrate the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee as Seve Divas. He said 512 cultural, social and educational programmes hroughout Mumbai have been organised by BJP workers all over the city.

He also announced the Millennium Khel Mahtosav 2000 for residents of northeast Mumbai between January 5 to 17, 2000. Somaiya said that 1,000 schools, 25 colleges and 300 local teams will participate in 27 disciplines.
