“Judge sahib mainu bacha lo nahin te main mar jaoonga (Please save me or I will die).” Former media adviser BIS Chahal wept like a child as he pleaded for mercy before Justice Uma Nath Singh here on Tuesday and was finally awarded some relief when the court directed the Punjab Government to take Chahal to AIIMS for medical examination in light of his allegations of torture.

The AIIMS Director has been asked to submit a report of Chahal’s medical examination within two weeks. Chahal’s bail application in the land grabbing case was adjourned to August 6 after he requested the court to hand over all the cases against him to the CBI. Chahal will be sent to AIIMS once its Director gives a date for his examination to the Ludhiana police.

Chahal unspooled the tale of his “torture” at the hands of the Punjab Police. “Judge sahib, I was given electric shocks on my private parts. I was stripped naked. The Patiala Police also manhandled me and gave me electric shocks… I am 59-years-old, please give these cases to the CBI,” Chahal pleaded.

“If you want the cases to be handed over to CBI, your counsel will have to argue for it,” the Judge replied. Chahal’s advocate, however, did not appear in the court on Tuesday.
