Pressure mounts on Tohra to quit
The supporters of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today mounted pressure on Gurcharan Singh Tohra to resign from the presidentship of the SGPC, the statutory body managing Sikh shrines in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. In another significant development, Badal is learnt to have met Bhai Ranjit Singh, chief of Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs, for about 15 minutes in Amritsar.

Jathedar to keep out till invited
Bhai Ranjit Singh, Jathedar of Akal Takht, today made an appeal to battling Akali Dal leaders Parkash Singh Badal and Gurcharan Singh Tohra to mend their differences mutually in the larger interests of the Sikh Panth. Addressing newsmen at the Akal Takht, Bhai Ranjit Singh said senior leaders like Jathedar Mohan Singh Tur could help bridge differences between the two.
