Go ahead with polls, PM tells EC
The polls to elect the 13th Lok Sabha will be held on time by the end of September, CEC M.S.Gill said today after discussing the implications of the Kargil conflict with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. Speaking to journalists as he emerged from meeting the PM, Gill said the Commission was going ahead with its task of “finalising the schedule which will be announced in good and appropriate time.” The CEC and his two Commission colleagues had sought the meeting with the Prime Minister to ascertain the government’s perception of the conduct of polls even as speculation is rife that the Kargil situation could lead to a postponement.
