HYDERABAD, May 9: Indian hockey federation (IHF) vice-president Chandrashekar has jumped into the fray for its presidentship even as the stage is set for the sportsbody’s crucial annual general body meeting (AGM) here tomorrow.

Chandrashekar, a Chandigarh Inspector General of Police, claims the support of 16 state units. He is contesting on the issue of lack of transparency in IHF and his rival in all respect would be the incumbent IHF chief Kunwar Pal Singh Gill.

The meeting is very crucial as it is also scheduled to elect a new set of officer bearers for a term of four years.

Representatives of almost all the 33 units of IHF have been converged in the city for the AGM and the two groups have been lodged themselves in two separate hotels.

When inquired about when the actual differences creeped in between Gill and himself, Chandrasekhar said there were differences from the beginning.

The Gill faction claimed that they would win without much ado if an election is held as they were supported by 24units. Both the groups were holding parleys with various units and no one could now judge who is supporting whom. With the scene continuing to be fluid, hectic activities could be seen at the two hotels with members gossiping about the strategy to be adopted tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, the much-awaited emergency executive committee meeting went off smoothly this evening by accepting the secretary’s report and audited statement of accounts.
