  • A month-long community theatre workshop and play was organised by the Centre for Education and Voluntary Action at the Government Primary School, Sector 33. A play titled "Fruit Singh ka Thaila has been written by the students of Class III.

  • The Punjab state unit of Lok Shakti has welcomed the decision of the party’s national executive to have an alliance with the BJP and its allies for the forthcoming general elections. According to a press statement issued here, the alliance has been made keeping in mind national interests.

  • Excimer laser clinic was inaugurated at the Guru Harkrishan Sahib Charitable Eye Hospital at Sohna, by the chairman and managing director of Punjab and Sind Bank, Surinder Singh Kohli today.
  • Hindi students sit in dharna

  • Students of the Department of Hindi today sat in dharna at the Panjab University asking for the early resolution of their problems. The agitating students complained that since the chairman of their department had been divested of all powers, they are unable to forward their complaints to an appropriate authority. Non-availability of university authorities was also criticised by the students.
  • Lecture on north-east tomorrow

  • Prof M.N. Karna, a sociologist specialising in the problems of north eastern India will be visiting the Department of Sociology, Panjab University. According to K. Gopal Iyer, chairman of the department, he would deliver a lecture on "Understanding North-east" on January 14 while a lecture on "Ethnic conflict and socioeconomic processes in North East" will be delivered on January 15.
  • Counselling programme organised

  • An orientation programme in guidance and counselling was organised by the Department of Educational Psychology and Foundation, NCERT, in collaboration with the State Institute of Education, Sector 32. Inaugurating the session, Dr S.S. Mathur, former professor of Panjab University emphasised the need of guidance services in India. Dr Asha Bhatnagar, Dr R.K. Sarswat and Dr Nirmala Gupta from NCERT participated in the programme.
  • Man injured in road accident

  • Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Maloya Colony here was reportedly hit by a Maruti car (CHF 3249) driven by Mitta near the local bus stop in the colony. The injured was admitted to the General Hospital in Sector 16 and a case of accident under Sections 279 and 337 has been registered but no arrests have been made so far, it was added.
  • TV, VCR stolen from Sector 44 house

  • Paramjit Kaur, a resident of 2324, Sector 44 reported to the police that some unknown persons committed a theft in the house and took away a TV, VCR and some other electronic gadgets. The police have registered a case under Section 380 of the IPC.
  • Two theft cases reported

  • Two cases of theft and burglary were reported from Indira Colony in Manimajra on Sunday. While Bakhtawar Singh reported the theft of a gas from his house, Prem Singh complained to the police that someone stole important documents and household gadgets. Cases have been registered in both the incidents.
  • Car hits car, case registered

  • Dr PS Jaswal, a resident of Sector 22, reported to the police that his car (CH01H 0117) was hit by another Maruti car (CH01 1583), in Sector 16 last night. The police have registered a case.
  • Man held for rioting, attempted murder

  • The Sector 11 police have arrested Rohtash alias Paapi, a resident of Janata Colony, Sector 25. He is accused in a case of rioting, trespass and attempt to murder, registered last year, the police said.
  • Residents concerned over rise in thefts

  • The Sector 43B Residents Welfare Association have expressed concern over the number of thefts and burglaries in the area. A press release issued here today said that seven houses were burgled last year, and all of them remain unsolved.
