Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Tuesday visited her constituency, Gautam Budh Nagar, amid tight security and again demanded SPG security for herself. She also announced several schemes for the district.

Talking about her security-related concerns, she said, “Rules have been changed in the past and they should be changed now to provide SPG security to me. It cannot be confined to the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister.” She claimed that the Bahujan Samaj Party is now a national party and hence, she has to travel throughout the country.

The threats to her life were coming from other states, she claimed, adding that Congress criticising her demand for SPG security cover was an instance of its “anti-Dalit attitude”.

Addressing a rally at Sector-18 market, Mayawati criticised the earlier Mulayam Singh Government for “neglecting the development needs of the district”. “Noida will be a world-class city by the end of this financial year and the development work will be undertaken on a large scale,” she added.

Promising action on land compensation rates for farmers, who have been protesting under the ‘Kisan Sangharsh Samiti’, she pulled up her officials for “not giving correct information” regarding the status of compensation and announced the setting-up of a committee to discuss compensation rates with farmers’ unions once-a-month. She declared that all pending compensation cases will be resolved by March 31.

She also announced an investment of Rs 1 crore to modernise the police force.
