CAIRO, December 30: Kenyans went to the polls for a second day today amidst charges by the Opposition that President Daniel Arap Moi, seeking a fifth term in office, resorted to rigging by delaying the opening of polling booths. The one-day Presidential and Parliamentary polls stretched into the second day after many polling booths either opened hours late or did not open at all as poll materials failed to reach them. “This is not giving us free-and-fair elections, and is better called off,” Justus Nyang’aya, chairman of the Opposition Social Democratic Party said.

The country’s Election Commission attributed the chaotic polling arrangements to heavy rains and floods in parts of Kenya.
