Charandeep Singh made good use of local knowledge as he won the Nett category in the ICICI Bank Private Banking Masters series golf at the Panchkula Golf Club. The local star was tied with Maninder Singh, who also puts Panchkula as his home course. Both scored 42 points, but Charandeep won on countback of better back nine.
R S Sandhu of Chandigarh was third with 41 points in a close contest in the second leg India’s biggest Corporate golf series in India.
Sandeep Sandhu of Chandigarh Golf Club grabbed the honours in Gross Category with 34 points and he was four points clear of D Lamba, who was second. Manpal Singh was third with 29 points.
Suneet Sehgal produced the longest drive of 276 yards, while Swaraj Handa was closest to the pin getting to seven feet four inches of the cup.
With enthusiasm at a new high, the entry list had to be expanded slightly to accommodate 66 participants instead of the planned 60. The participants contested on stableford format on three-fourths of their handicap in two categories of Gross Stableford and Nett Stableford points.
Big names like the Bijendra Kumar and other bureaucrats were present at the event alongside big corporate clients of ICICI Chandigarh division.
The prizes were given away by Ishtpal Singh, Regional head sales ICICI Private Banking, Amit Rai, Regional head liabilities Punjab (ICICI), Shivam Sharma, Zonal head wealth Management (ICICI) and General manager Panchkula Golf Club Mr V K Kalra.
Two legs of ICICI Bank Private Banking Masters Series golf 2006 have been held so far and the winners of the Gross and Nett Category qualify for the Grand Finale at Aamby Valley Golf Club.
The next leg of the Masters Series golf 2006 will be held at Lucknow on December 2.
