CHENNAI, SEPT 1: Seeded players in the girls under-14 section, led by top two seeds, Sania Mirza (AP) and Isha Lakhani (Mah), moved into the last eight of the Nutrine National Sub-Junior Hard Court Tennis Championship here today.
In boys under-16 section first round matches, seventh and eighth seeds Chatwinder Singh of Chandigarh and C Tejeshwar of Karnataka were knocked out by West Bengal players. Singh lost 4-6 7-5 0-6 to Dhruv Kumar while Tejeswhar was ousted 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 0-6 by Arka Mandal.
Second seed Ammanjot Singh (Chandigarh) overcame Dhananjay Kawade (Maharashtra) 7-6 (5) 6-7 (5) 6-1 after a three-hour struggle while top seed CS Mohanty (Delhi) quelled the challenge of P Chaturvedi (Delhi) 6-4 6-3.
Top seed in the boys singles under-14, Vikrant Sane of Maharashtra, had an easy passage into the second round when his opponent G Arjun (Karnataka) conceded the match after losing the first set 4-6.
