CHANDIGARH, NOV 15: The Haryana Assembly tonight defeated a no-confidence motion by 52-28 votes against the Om Prakash Chautala ministry. The motion was moved by the main Opposition Congress and Haryana Vikas Party.

This was the first no-confidence motion against the Chautala ministry which assumed office on July 24 following the resignation of the Bansi Lal Government.

Twenty-eight members voted in favour of the motion, moved by Kamal Singh (HVP) on behalf of the Opposition, and 52 against it. Seven members, including four HVP MLAs who were inducted into the Chautala ministry ten days ago, abstained from voting.

The no-confidence motion tabled by the Congress and the Haryana Vikas Party, expressing their lack of faith in the Chautala government, was put to vote by Speaker Ashok Kumar Arora after a five-hour debate.

28 Opposition members belonging to the Congress and the HVP stood in favour of the motion, while 52 members comprising the ruling Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) led by Chautala, BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) and Independent members opposed the motion.
