Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala has asked senior IAS officer A.N. Mathur to look after Chief Secretary Lalit Mohan Goyal’s work while he is abroad — for just two working days. The move, announced late on Wednesday night, was followed by the CM expressing ire over Goyal’s trip at a meeting yesterday.

The displeasure apparently has much to do with the timing of the tour — especially because Chautala reached Chandigarh only a day before and hardly had any time to interact with senior officers.

Sources said Chautala expressed his unhappiness over Goyal’s foreign visit and questioned its relevance. Later both had a closed door meeting for about half-an-hour. Bureaucratic circles are abuzz with the decision to bring a bureaucrat who at one time was a contender to the post Goyal eventually got. Neither Mathur nor anyone in the CMO could be contacted.
