Salomon Kalou smashed a spectacular late equaliser as Chelsea recovered to earn a 3-3 draw with Tottenham in the FA Cup quarter finals today.

Jose Mourinho’s team appeared to be heading to an embarrassing defeat after Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Essien’s own goal and Hossam Ghaly handed Spurs a 3-1 half-time lead at Stamford Bridge.

But Frank Lampard’s second goal of the game in the 70th minute set up a thrilling finale and Kalou — a second-half substitute — completed the comeback with a brilliant volley with just 4 minutes left.

The two teams will meet again in a replay at White Hart Lane on 19 March to try reproduce the drama of this captivating cup tie, which hung in the balance until the final seconds.

Spurs, however, may feel that their best chance has gone. A place in the last four was theirs for the taking thanks to a scintillating first-half performance, but Chelsea are nothing if not durable and the Premiership champions managed to claw their way back into the tie.

On Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo had converted a second-half penalty to give Manchester United a 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough in another quarter final. Ronaldo scored in the 68th minute after a hand ball from Middlesbrough captain George Boateng.

Real hold Barca 3-3

Madrid: Lionel Messi scored his third goal of the game in injury time to rally FC Barcelona to a 3-3 draw with rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish league. The forward received Ronaldinho’s pass before darting through the defence and firing a low, angled left-footed shot past Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas to put Barca atop the standings.
