CHENNAI, June 30: According to a study conducted by India International Programme on Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC), under the aegis of the International Labour Organisation, child labour brings down productivity and consequently reduces profitability in industries. The study was conducted in collaboration with NGOs, the National Labour Institute, New Delhi, the National Institute for Rural Development, Hyderabad and the Central Board for Workers Education, Nagpur. Some of the industries that were taken up for the study include the carpet industry (UP), firework and match factories (Sivakasi), glass industries (Faridabad) and silver articles (Pune) among others.
