CHANDIGARH, Dec 15: Both China and India face simillar challenges and tasks in the coming millennium. It is therefore imperative for the two nations to develop friendly relations.

This was stated by Zhao Gang, the Ambassador of China, speaking at a function this evening on the Punjab University campus which was organised by the India-China Friendship Association (ICFA).

“The Chinese government attaches great importance to its relations with India,” Gang declared. “I am confident that joint efforts will boost Indo-China relations in the coming years,” he added.

Raja Narinder Singh, Minister of Public Health and Civil Aviation, Punjab, said that India should follow China’s example in solving the population problem.

Gang, who is on his first ever visit to the City, also met Gen B.K.N. Chhibber (retd), Governor of Punjab, later. He will be visiting Shimla and Amritsar in the next two days, Jiwan Tewari, President, ICFA, said.
