The Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) has written to the country heads of major fast food chians like Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Dominos, KFC and others in the industry to partner with them to raise nutritional awareness in the country.

The Ministry has proposed that these joints should also serve their food with a little change in ingredients like whole-wheat buns, grill patties, soya burgers added with sesame seeds so that people can make correct choices.

“The overall exercise is to spread awareness about nutritional food,” WCD Minister Renuka Chowdhury said. According to the minister, banning burgers, pizzas or patties is not an option. “Instead, the way out is to provide healthier and better options to children in the same form,” added Chowdhury.

Chowdhury is soon going to meet the giant players with the idea and is confident that all of them will come forward for it. The Minister is also keen on proposing the food joint heads to start printing the nutritional value of the products on the papers used on the serving trays, for the people to know what they are eating.
