After going rural, it’s time now for CII to look into the matters of the masses or more literally, the workforce of its manufacturing companies. The apex body is busy organising familiarisation missions of workers from both public and private sector to companies that follow excellent human resource policies.

After visits to Bangalore and Pune earlier, now Delhi is all to receive workers from other parts of the country. During the visit, they are expected to visit facilities of Maruti Udyog Ltd, Hero Honda Motors and few companies based in Greater Noida.

S Sen, deputy DG of CII says, “the main objective of these mission are to provide opportunity to gain overall knowledge of the workplace and share the insights and observations with their counterparts.” With 90 per cent of its membership coming from manufacturing sector, CII is also focusing on training of workers specially for small and medium enterprises with limited resources.

Sen said “because of mechanisation, many companies in India have surplus manpower but there should be a proper social security net when this is retrenched. Flexibility regarding exit/entry should be subject to the provision that the person will be looked after well, he added.
