CHANDIGARH, Feb 25: Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO) plans to throw open a bicycle safari at the back side of the picturesque Sukhna Lake on Saturday to promote adventure tourism.
The safari inauguration, which will coincide with the Festival of Gardens, is expected to give a substantial boost to the existing tourism potential of the City Beautiful. It will be inaugurated by UT Administrator Lt Gen B.K.N. Chhibber (retd) on February 27.
A haven for those who want it the "tough" way, the Safari will be open to local residents as well as those visiting the city, but each would have to bring their own bicycles for participation. The safari, which will help promote adventure sports tourism in the City, would pass through the 11 km route meandering through the countryside towards the north of the city, will pass through villages Kaimbwala, Saketri, the regulator end of the lake and back at the front side of the lake.
CITCO officials say the aim of promoting the safari was to help provide an opportunity to the public to cycle on the kuccha and pucca roads in the countryside, as despite such tracks in the city, the public did not get an opportunity to cycle through the terrain.
