AUG 27: Riding high on the success of the Kick Plastic Campaign, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Chandrasekhar Rokde attributed the no-flooding to the vast drop in the number of plastic bags blocking nalas. Rokde added that another reason for no flooding was the Zero-Garbage Drive that the corporation had begun since August 10.

Only one incident of flooding was reported at King’s Circle where three inches of water had accumulated. But, here too the water has receeded quickly. Areas which are frequently flooded like Sumant Nagar, Postal Colony, JVPD Scheme (Vile Parle) and Andheri (W), cleared quickly. Chief Engineer (Storm

Water Drains) M K Paradia added that the lack of floods could also be attributed to the fact that the rains did not coincide with high tide. The nalas are normally closed during high tide so as to not to let the rain water enter the sea, resulting in flooding.

The city has recived 268.1mm of rainfall since Thursday and heavy rains are forecase till Tuesday.
