To commemorate 50 years of Israel's Independence in April 1998, the Consulate-General of Israel in Mumbai will begin celebrations here on December 23, 1997 under the banner `Shalom India-Shanti Israel'. On December 23, the first day of the 8-day Hannukah festival, a function will be held at St Andrew's Auditorium. A peace march will be held, followed by a cultural programme involving Israeli and Indian singers.Gold awardsThe World Gold Council has announced the Swarnanjali Awards for excellence in gold jewellery design for 1998. Entry forms will be available from December 15. The contest opens on December 15 and will remain open for eight weeks till February 15, 1998.
