Clash over eve-teasing kills college student

A college student was allegedly murdered last evening in New Bhimnagar locality of the city for objecting to eve-teasing, police said. The incident happened when some youths were teasing the daughter of an advocate in the area to which the father of the deceased, Amardip Wakpanjar (21), objected.

A clash between the two groups followed. Amardip, a student of Shivaji College, was allegedly attacked with a sword, while his brother Sandip and father Dhanraj were injured while trying to rescue him. Satish Khandre from the rival group also received head injuries, police said. All of them were rushed to the district hospital, where Amardip succumbed to his injuries.

Police have rushed to the spot and Khandre and Saghpal Sirsat have been taken into custody, police said, adding that some more arrests were expected. — (PTI)
