Even as Congress president Sonia Gandhi slams the policies of his government during her whirlwind tour of western UP, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today appealed to the oldest national party against allying with the BSP.‘‘UP sampradaikta ka ghar aur kewal Samajwadi Party sampradaik forces se lar rahi hain. Faisla Congress ko karna hai. (Only the SP is fighting communal forces in UP. The Congress must decide),’’ Mulayam said.He said the coalition led by him, supported by the Rashtriya Kranti Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal, was as strong as it was when formed four months ago.The CM, however, skirted the question whether he would support Sonia as the prime ministerial candidate, as it was he who had blocked her chances in 1999. ‘‘It is too early to comment on the issue. Let the LS polls come and we will decide.’’ He staunchly ruled out the possibility of joining a front led by the BJP for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. ‘‘This is impossible,’’ the CM said, but at the same time pointed out that he was not against the policies of the BJP-led NDA government. He said the BJP must not bask in its Assembly election victory. ‘‘The three states where the BJP has won have a total of 65 Lok Sabha seats, whereas UP alone has 81 seats. BJP’s real test will be here and the party may end up with just two of the 29 seats they had won last time,’’ Mulayam said.
