Sahibzadey: A Saga of Valor & Sacri
fice was born during a friendly discussion about the youth and their ignorance of Sikh history.
The 50-minute film focuses on the sacrifice of the two younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru.
Recalls computer engineer Navnit Singh: ‘‘We were griping about the youth being ignorant about religion when my friend Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon suggested that animated films could bridge the gap.’’
A month later, in December 2003, the duo had set up a firm with a new partner, Singapore-based Bakhtawar Singh Gill. Once they had a script, they hired students from the arts college and downloaded information on filmmaking from the Internet, books.
Flush with rave reviews from the Sikh community in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, the partners are looking forward to an all-India release next month. And yes, they’re already working on a sequel.
