The Congress today went all out in its attack against the BJP. Ranging from the Vision Document to DPM L.K. Advani’s statements, to the role of the RSS in the freedom struggle, party spokesperson Kapil Sibal did not leave out any stones unturned.

He began by releasing a list of anti-RSS quotes by national icons who have been named as inspirations by the BJP in its Vision Document. It included quotes by Mahatma Gandhi, Jayaprakash Narayan, B.R. Ambedkar and Shyama Prasad Mookerji, all of whose pictures appear in the draft.

Party spokesperson Ashwani Sharma added voice to Sibal, saying Advani’s recent statement in Porbander on how even Mahatma Gandhi had talked about Ram Rajya was an attempt to ‘‘mislead’’ the nation. According to him, Gandhiji had not talked of any single religion.

Sharma also stated that contrary to what Advani had said Hindutva should not be mistaken for Hinduism.‘‘Advani’s statement on Ram Rajya and Hindutva is contrary to what is there in history and is a deliberate attempt to mislead the people,’’ he said. ‘‘His (Gandhiji’s) concept was not the narrow and bigoted version that the BJP is forwarding,’’ he said.

Sharma added that Veer Savarkar had floated the concept of Hindutva for political mileage and reiterated that the RSS had not participated in the freedom struggle.
