NEW DELHI, October 27: Congress president Sonia Gandhi launched a broadside on the BJP government for its inability to check the spiralling prices, rupee devaluation and for conspiring to destroy parliamentary democracy by trying to change the Constitution. In her 15-minute speech at the valedictory function of the Indian Youth Congress delegates convention today, she said, ``Many a challenge has been met and solved with the help of this Constitution. Amending the Constitution is all right, but changing the very basics of the Constitution bodes ill for democracy,'' she felt. She said, ``While people are dying of hunger, the BJP is more interested in doing things which are economically isolating the country. The Congress, on the other hand, had carefully maintained a compatibility with other nations. That was the reason why after the first atomic test, the country did not face any such isolation''.
