CHANDIGARH, JULY 16: Haryana Congress today formally handed over a letter to the State Governor Mahabir Prasad here demanding dissolution of the state assembly and holding of fresh elections as “the Bansi Lal government had been reduced to a minority”.

A two-page letter, signed by Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) President Bhupinder Singh Hooda and leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Kartar Devi, was handed over to the governor this evening.

Hooda said the governor assured the four-member Congress delegation that after consulting legal experts he would act as per constitutional provisions.

The letter said that the Congress is neither interested in forming a government without the people’s mandate nor did it want to capture power with the help of non-Congress parties.

Since the BJP-INLD combine is also not in a position to form a government the assembly should be dissolved and fresh elections be held alongwith the Lok Sabha polls “so that there is a stable, welfare-oriented andpopular government in Haryana”, the letter added.
