
AMRITSAR, Feb 8: Rich tributes were paid to former Congress Chief Minister late Partap Singh Kairon at a function in his native village Kairon, 60 km from here today. No leader of the Congress Party attended the function.
Hundreds of admirers of Kairon placed wreaths on his memorial in the village. The function organised by Kairon’s elder son Surinder Singh was boycotted by his younger son Gurinder Singh.
Adesh Partap Singh, grand son of Kairon and MLA from Patti said that Kairon had throughout his life advocated moral and democratic values. He said he was trying to follow his grand father who was a “messiah” of the poor and down-trodden.
Others who paid tributes included Ajay Pal Singh Meerankot, Gulzar Singh Ranike (both MLAs) Pardeep Singh Walia, district Akali Jatha president. Deputy Commissioner Narinderjit Singh and SSP Tarn Taran Jasminder Singh also paid tributes to Kairon.
