Notwithstanding the Samajwadi Party’s support to the UPA Government at the Centre, Congress in Uttar Pradesh today resolved not to have tie-ups with any party in the future elections in the state.
A resolution adopted by a meeting of the district and city presidents of the state here asserted that the Congress favoured strengthening of the party in Uttar Pradesh and would contest all future elections on its own, UPCC president Jagdambika Pal said. ‘‘It was felt that since Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have decided to work for the organisation there would be no need to align with regional parties in future polls,’’ he said.
Pal said that the membership drive would be launched in the state from June. A forthnight-long ‘‘Janadesh Samman Pakhwara’’ would also be held from June 5 to 20 during which meetings would be held all over the state to revamp the party units.
The resolution would be sent to the party high command soon, he said. —(PTI)
