NEW DELHI, Jan 25: Congress’ troubles in Uttar Pradesh are far from over, even after a desperate Ajit Singh — after exhausting all possible combinations — today forged an alliance with the party. Considering Bharatiya Kisan Kamgar Party (BKKP) chief Singh’s clout in a small patch of western UP and the fact that the Congress is yet to put its act together as far as tie-ups with other parties go for the 85 seats in the State, the overall scenario is murky.

Congress vice-president Jitendra Prasad and Ajit Singh today held a joint press conference to announce the decision.

Their alliance, the two said, would create a platform to jointly combat the Bharatiya Janata Party. Singh dismissed as “the BJP’s propoganda” reports about his trying to forge an alliance with the party as he had met several of its top leaders.

He quipped, “Jo Ganesh ji ko dudh pila sakate hai, woh kutch bhi baat kar sakate hai (those who can make lord Ganesha drink milk can do anything).”

The seat adjustment with Ajit, said Prasada, would be decided soon after a discussion between the two parties.
