The Congress today trained guns at Law Minister Arun Jaitley against whom the party is ‘‘actively considering’’ bringing a privilege motion for ‘‘misleading’’ the Lok Sabha on the Babri Masjid demolition case.
According to the Congress, Jaitley didn’t mentioned the supplementary chargesheet filed by the CBI in 1996 which named L.K. Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi and others for criminal conspiracy in the demolition case.
Party chief spokesperson Jaipal Reddy said: ‘‘Jaitley knew there were two chargesheets in the demolition case but mentioned only the first one filed in 1993 and did not mention the second one filed in 1996 after a thorough investigation by CBI.’’.
He reiterated today that the second chargesheet ‘‘clearly mentioned Section 120 (B) for criminal conspiracy in the demolition case and named Advani, Joshi and many others in the conspiracy.’’
‘‘He has certainly misled the House knowing the whole fact…CBI has been advancing its arguments till 2003 about prima facie evidence to prosecute Advani, Joshi and others. The fact investigated by the CBI cannot be wished away,’’ he added.
On bringing a no-trust motion, Reddy said: ‘‘Whether or not such a motion should be brought is a matter of political judgement and not of procedural judgement.’’
