MUMBAI, July 5: The Congress-led opposition parties will expose the “bankrupt” Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance for its failure on all fronts, during the three week monsoon session of the state legislature beginning from Monday.

Talking to media persons, leader of opposition in the Assembly Madhukar Pichad and his council counterpart Chhagan Bhujbal said the opposition parties will lay emphasis on the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and the worsening financial condition of the alliance government.

“The government is in a financial crisis owing to poor resource mobilisation and is seeking money from all quarters. Now it has sought Rs 200 crore from the Mumbai Municipal Corporation for giving it to the State Cooperative Marketing Federation,”, they alleged.

They said it was unfortunate that workers, allegedly belonging to the ruling party, attacked a journalist in Thane, ransacked a newspaper office in Amravati district and assaulted anti-Enron crusader Medha Patkar and Congress legislator Ashok Mohol at Pune last week.

The police also mercilessly beat up state youth Congress president Anees Ahmad, they said.

“Police attacked Ahamd despite knowing he is a sitting member of the Legislative Assembly. It was a deliberate attempt to harass political workers,” Bhujbal added.

He said that even before the controversy over allotment of land for the Sahara India Hill station project had died down, the alliance government had allotted a huge piece of land to Suman Motels. “We will disclose the details of the allotment on the floor of the house,” Bhujbal added.

They said the alliance government had failed to resolve the problems of the textile workers and agriculturists. While no steps have been taken to tackle the textile sector crisis, cotton growers have not yet been paid Rs 600 crore for the last season.

Similarly, no policy has been chalked out to help the onion growers in the Nasik division. “Instead of purchasing onions, the government was bent on asking the National Agriculture Federation to step in,” they said.

The opposition has also decided to initiate a debate on the CRB scam and the multicrore scandals in the cooperative banks. “As per media reports, some leaders of the ruling party are allegedly involved in the CRB scam and we have to find out who they are.”
