The United Progressive Alliance is scheduled to hold a coordination committee meeting tomorrow to discuss the common minimum programme. But the Congress is said to be pushing tomorrow’s date for the election of Congress president Sonia Gandhi as the committee chairperson.

In the NDA, former PM A.B. Vajpayee was its leader. It is learnt that the Congress has already held discussions with leaders of all allies about the issue and there seem to be ‘‘no difficulties’’ in the path of Sonia’s selection to the crucial post, if she agrees for it.

Though there is a slim chance of the chairperson’s post going to any other party, party leaders are rallying around her to agree to the post. It is not yet clear whether she would agree to the post or pass it on to PM Manmohan Singh.
