CHANDIGARH, Dec 6: BJP national vice-president Krishan Lal Sharma today charged the Congress with creating an atmosphere of instability in the country in order to achieve its selfish motives.

While addressing a press conference here today, Sharma refuted Congress’ claim of being ready for mid-term polls, adding that the party was neither supporting any government nor was it in a position to put forward an alternative government.

Saying that the Congress had failed to wean away the BJP allies in the present government, he added that the allies understood that the nation’s future was not safe in the hands of the Congress and thus the allies had stood behind the government.

He said it was evident from the Congress’ claims that it was following a double policy, for on one hand it said that it did not want to destabilise the government, while on the other hand it was stating that the present government would fall on its own.

He said that the Congress was doing a disservice to the nation and that its rule would neither be in the interest of the country’s economic health, the public or the nation’s development. Sharma, instead said that the BJP had played a constructive role when it had sat in the Opposition for many years. On the present debacle in the recent Assembly polls, Sharma said the Congress was making analyses in haste, since these polls had no relevance with the Centre.

He added that a new development after the Assembly polls was the concept of the Third Front having received a severe jolt, as there were no more players left on the national political scene. He termed the pact between the CPI and the Left parties with the Congress as “suicidal”, stating that the closer these parties got to Congress, the sooner they would be wiped out.

The BJP leader also charged the Congress with playing the communal card whenever it was in the Opposition. “Their main emphasis in the past has been on Muslims and this time it is the Christian vote bank that they are wishing to exploit”.

He added that the Congress, especially the Gandhi family, would not be able to be fool people and charged them with causing enough harm to the nation.
