Just months away from the Lok Sabha polls, political parties of Bihar have shied away from a test of strength by agreeing on a non-political contest for 24 seats in the Upper House of the State Legislature scheduled for July 10. All parties have agreed not to field candidates identified by the party banner.

Elections to the 24 Vidhan Parishad seats will be held after a gap of 25 years. These 24 seats, which are elected by an electoral college comprising local bodies members, have been lying vacant since 1978. The last local bodies polls were held in 2002 after a gap of 24 years.
