CHANDIGARH, July 27: Constable Jaswinder Singh of Model Jail Burail was remanded to judicial custody till August 4 by UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) A. K. Bishnoi, here today.
He was arrested by the Chandigarh Police on July 25 for his alleged involvement in the jailbreak conspiracy for freeing "hardcore terrorist" Jagtar Singh Hawara and other alleged assassins of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.
According to the prosecution, Rs 50,000, handed over to him by human rights activist Jaspal Singh Dhillon, were distributed to the families of terrorists through assistant jail superintendent Sitla Prashad Mishra on Hawara’s directions.
Another Rs 10,000, handed out to him by Dhillon, were taken by co-conspirator in the case, Jaswant Singh, on Hawara’s instructions.
The accused was required as a mobile phone smuggled into the jail premises and an adapter was to be recovered from his possession, the prosecution added.
