CHANDIGARH, Oct 12: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a contempt notice to Haryana MLA Dillu Ram for filing a false affidavit regarding his attendance at a meeting of the Municipal Committee, Cheeka, in Kurukshetra.
A division bench of the court comprising Justice V K Jhanji and Justice K S Kumaran issued the notice returnable on October 26 to Dillu Ram, to show cause as to why contempt proceedings not be initiated against him under the Contempt of Court Act for filing a false affidavit.
Petitioner Dharam Pal Jindal, the then president of the Municipal Committee, Cheeka, had alleged that Dillu Ram, MLA of Halqa Gulha (Reserve) constituency, was present at the MC meeting held on November 10, 1997, in which a no confidence motion was moved against Jindal.
In spite of having attended the meeting, Dillu Ram had filed an affidavit on September 25 this year, stating that he had received the notice regarding no confidence motion against Jindal, but that he had not attended the meeting.
After the signatures of Dillu Ram in the proceedings register were placed before the bench, it felt that the affidavit filed by Dillu Ram was false and prima facie thought it proper to issue a contempt notice to him.
The bench, after a perusal of the proceedings book, has directed the placing of the same in a sealed cover with the Additional Registrar (Judicial) of the court.
