July 9: The Repair Board of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has set up a 24-hour control room for attending to any building collapse at its office at Rajni Mahal, Tardeo, the minister of state for housing, Raj Purohit announced at a press conference here today.Since the state government has announced a survey of all old structures in the city, the minister appealed that citizens should call up the control rooms if any dangerous crack is noticed in their buildings.Accordingly, deputy engineers and junior engineers of the Repair Board will be available at all hours at numbers: 4948423 and 4946945 to attend at the earliest to any such emergency spots. during a house collapse. Around 25 transit camps have also been situated at Sion to handle any emergency, the minister informed.According to Purohit, a one man enquiry committee has been set up under the chief engineer, V S Karandikar, to look into the collapse of Ganesh Bhuvan at Kalbadevi. The committee will be submitting its report to the state government within a month, he said.The repair board conducted a survey of old and dilapidated structures and identified 40 such dangerous buildings, especially in the city, that needed immediate attention. Apart from the Ganesh Bhuvan collapse, minor collapses in 13 buildings have already taken place in the city this monsoon.
