Control your cadre, then peace will return, Buddha told

The Trinamool Congress and Congress asked CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee that he control his party CPM's cadre in trouble-hit Nandigram.

The Trinamool Congress and Congress asked Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee that he control his party CPM’s cadre in trouble-hit Nandigram.

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Partha Chatterjee, referring to violence on Sunday and on Monday, said “we really wonder how Bhattacherjee can appeal to us (for peace for development) when he cannot control his own armed cadre who are responsible for unrest and killing of innocent villagers in Nandigram.”

Chatterjee, the TC general secretary, said it was surprising that Bhattacharjee was making such an appeal when it was his government which had prevented the CRPF, deployed after the recapture of Nandigram by marxists in November, 2007, from performing its duties to restore peace and instill confidence among the people.

“Peace can return only when he controls his own armed cadre,” he said.

Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the state Manas Bhuiyan also spoke in the same vein.

He claimed many of those who received land documents from the Chief Minister during the day were CPM supporters and economically sound and Bhattacharjee should inquire into this and make public his findings.
