NEW DELHI, August 4: Indian Nationals scored a 3-0 victory over Shahdara Football Club in a group B match of the DSA-SAIL Senior Division super league at the Ambedkar Stadium here today.
Though the winners managed to score once only in the first session, they came back strongly to strike twice. Nationals’ domination was complete on a day when Shahdara could have scored at least a couple of goals. But they muffed them due to erratic shooting. The worst part was when they missed a penalty awarded just after the winners took the lead.
Nationals were put 1-0 up by Jaman S. Rawat in the fourth minute but in the next minute found themselves in a spot of bother as referee Ashok Sharma awarded a penalty to their rivals. But Shahdara striker Sameer Jung failed to make most of the opportunity.
After changing ends, Nationals took complete control and surged ahead through Dharmender Kharola in the 45th minute. A little while later, substitute Dalip Bhandari put it beyond Shahdara’s reach.
