Cop killed in Bengal Moharram violence

A policeman was among two killed when a Moharram procession passing through Durgapur turned violent today. Sources said trouble began when a truck came in the way of the procession. A scuffle ensued between the processionists and the driver in which one person was killed.

Soon, rioting spread to other areas of the city. When police came, the processionists attacked the men in uniform and one policeman was severely assaulted. He later succumbed to his injuries. Sources said RAF personnel have been deployed in Durgapur to quell the tension.
