NEW DELHI, December 15: Inspector A.K. Biswas did his good deed for the day by returning a bag full of money to a passenger at the Indira Gandhi International Airport last night. Posted at the immigration counter, Biswas returned money approximately worth Rs 1 lakh to businessman P.K. Sharma.

Sharma was in the arrival area, going through immigration when he dropped his cloth bag near the counter. The bag had no identification tags and contained 23 hundred dollar notes. Inspector Biswas picked up the bag and deposited it with ACP M.S. Verma. “Since the bag did not have any identification tag, we decided not to make an announcement regarding the missing bag,” explains DCP (FRRO) Dharmendra Kumar. “Any announcement would have meant a number of claimants and it would have become difficult to screen them.”

Instead, the two policemen went back to the immigration area and kept an eye on the passengers who were still in the area. They spotted Sharma hunting for the bag and when he gave the policemen all the correct information about the bag, it was handed over to him.

Kumar has recommended a Rs 1,000 reward for Inspector Biswas. “After all, Biswas could have just walked away with the money and no one would have known,” Kumar adds.
