‘‘He is being implicated because of his initials which read A.M. I cannot say anything on why he is being chased by police except that his initials are similar to an influential person who is allegedly involved Madhumita Shukla’s murder,’’ said Rani Mishra, mother of IIT student Anuj, who is alleged to have wed Shukla.

A Third Year Mechanical Engineering student, Anuj is currently in Singapore after he was selected in a campus interview. His family claims he has not contacted them since May 17, the day he left.

CBI makes sketch of
Madhumita ‘killer’

Lucknow: The CBI has begun preparing a computer sketch of Satya Prakash Tripathi, key accused in the Madhumita murder case. CID sources admitted on Thursday that it will not be possible to complete the probe in one month as ordered by UP CM Mayawati. Meanwhile, the Allahabad HC admitted a PIL seeking a CBI probe into the crime. The court gave the government four weeks time to file a counter. Police were tight-lipped on the delay in sending the foetus sample for DNA tests. —PTI

Investigations have revealed that Anuj, president of the IIT’s cultural activities, had invited Shukla last year for reciting her poems, which she didn’t respond to.

‘‘My son was born on October 1, 1981, and Shukla was 24. Even if he had to marry the girl whom he had never seen, he would have consulted me or his father,’’ his mother said.

Choosing to keep any bad publicity at bay, in-charge of the private security (SIS) for IIT, R.P. Singh, said: ‘‘We cannot give the permission for the media to enter the campus premises. The security have been tightened after the role of a student of the institute in the controversy involving a BSP MLA has come into limelight.’’
