LUDHIANA, Oct 16: For the elderly couple Karnail Singh and Surjit Kaur, residents of Dasmesh Nagar here, a journey to Kanyakumari turned out to be a nightmare as they were drugged and robbed of Rs 1.15 lakh by an unidentified youth in the train compartment. Karnail Singh, accompanied by his wife, left for Kanyakumari for treatment for his diabetes, a fortnight back. The couple boarded Nuvyug Express on October 13. While narrating their tale of woes to ENS, Karnail Singh said that enroute a thin, dark complexioned, spectacled man sat with them and later on sprung up a conversation with them. “At Jhansi railway station in UP, the guy offered us some eatables which he bought from the platform and we accepted it,” said Karnail Singh. The guy identified himself as Himesh, a resident of Jammu.
“After eating, my husband complained of giddiness and fell unconscious,” said Surjit Kaur, who also fell unconscious after some time. By the time the train reached Delhi, Surjit Kaur came around and found Rs 15,000 cash and gold jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh missing.
On reaching Ludhiana yesterday, Karnail’s son Narinder Bhanwra lodged a complaint with General Railway Protection Force (GRPF). When contacted ASI Dalip Singh, posted with GRPF here, said that the statements of both the victims had been recorded. He said that they will send the case to Delhi for further investigations.
