RAJKOT, Nov 16: Local police on Sunday nabbed a man for using obscene languages over the telephone to a woman in the city. The crank caller Mansukh Jadavji Gani of Jaideep Enterprises in Danapeeth was booked under Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). According to police sources, the woman had complained to the police that someone had been abusing her over the telephone for the last one-and-a-half months. Accordingly her number was trapped and the telecom department gave three numbers as possible sources of the calls. Further investigations led the police to the accused who later confessed to have making the calls.

In yet another case, personnel of the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) nabbed two persons who recently stole some cash from the shop of a trader in Gujri Bazar area of Bapunagar. Those arrested are Keshu Kheta Nadiya of Mophatiyapura and Jayanti Chatrubhai Shapriya. The two have been booked under Section 379 of the IPC and the stolen money have been recovered.

Meanwhile, the Rajkot rural police have booked four persons on charges of murder attempt on Sunday evening at Gondal taluka police station area. The accused include Goverdhan Dersi Patel and three of his accomplices. The incident occurred at Ransiki Sultanpur village.

According to sources, the complainant had recently purchased some land from Goverdhan. But when the former approached the latter for some signatures on the property related documents, they got involved in a heated argument following which Goverdhan with the help of three of his accomplices hit the complainant on the head with a sharp-edged iron. The complainant is presently under treatment in the Rajkot civil hospital. Police investigations are on in the matter.
